A Pleasant Surprise

Back in May 2013 I uploaded a post called Mushrooms. It was a photo I had shot with my newly purchased Canon T3i in the backyard. It was one of those right place, right time kind of shots. The sun was just about to set and the light was hitting these mushrooms perfectly. I immediately loved the photo. Now, you may or may not know, but I am a great fan of open source software and operating systems… my PC operating system of choice is a Linux distribution called Ubuntu. For every release cycle of their OS they run a community wallpaper contest where they ask users of Ubuntu to upload photos or artwork that may be used in the upcoming release.

So, I decided.. why not? I uploaded my photo of the mushrooms, really just to see if anyone would comment or possibly like my work. The deadline for the contest came and went and I never even considered that my photo would have been chosen. It wasn’t until I read a post on an Ubuntu blog called OMG! Ubuntu (These Are The 12 Community Wallpapers Chosen for Ubuntu 014.04)  that I knew that my photo had made the cut.

This is the version of the photo that will appear in Ubuntu 14.04 as one of the default community wallpapers.

This will appear as one of the default wallpapers included in the upcoming release of Ubuntu 14.04, set to be released on April 17, 2014. I feel honored to have one of my photos chosen, and I’d like to thank everyone who voted for it. Feel free to download this photo to use as a wallpaper on your PC, laptop or tablet even if you don’t use Ubuntu. Enjoy.
